Run a Digital Sabbath in your small group, follow the weekly plan below and fast one day a week for 1 month in community.
In the beginning, God worked, creating the heavens and the earth. And then, on the seventh day, He rested (Genesis 2:2-3). This rest wasn't because God was exhausted—it was to set a rhythm for all of creation: work and rest, produce and pause. For us, Sabbath is an invitation to stop striving, a weekly reminder that our worth doesn't come from what we produce but from who we are as God's children.
As A.J. Swoboda puts it in Subversive Sabbath: "Sabbath is a scheduled weekly reminder that we are not what we do; rather, we are who we are loved by.” And yet, how often does technology keep us from believing that truth? Our devices make it easy to fill every spare moment with productivity, entertainment, or noise. Instead of resting, we scroll. Instead of trusting, we strive. Taking a digital Sabbath is an act of surrender. When we silence the notifications and let go of the need to check our phones, we remind ourselves—and the world—that God is in control.
This week, let's explore what it means to embrace true rest, unplugging from the constant hum of technology and reconnecting with the One who invites us to peace.
